Patients anxiety before surgery, as well as 8 and 16 hours after the surgery were measured. Data analysis was performed by SPSS software version 16 using descriptive and inferential tests.

Results: The samples were homogeneous for age, gender, education and marital status. Before the intervention, there was no significant difference between the intervention and control subjects, but after the intervention, the anxiety score in the intervention group in the 8 hours (P = 0.03) and 16 hours (P = 0.001) after surgery was significantly reduced compared with the control group.
