Introduction: Self-harm in adolescents defined here as intentional self-injury or self-poisoning irrespective of motivation or intent. Present study has been aimed to evaluate effectiveness of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy - Family and child Skills Training (DBT-FST) on Impulsivity and quality of life in girls with self-harm behaviors of 15-17 year old children in Ahvaz city.
Method: This research design is quasi-experimental design. In this study, 30 children were selected by using random Multistage sampling method and were assigned to two experimental group and control group (n=15). The experimental group received 16 sessions of intervention for children (one session per week for 1 hours) and received 8 sessions of intervention for mothers (one session per two week for 2 hours) and control group were waiting for intervention. The participants of both groups responded to barratt impulsivity questionnaire (2002) and Quality of Life Index Cummins (2002).
Results: The findings of data analysis multivariate covariance showed that Dialectic Behavioral Therapy - Family and child Skills Training in (DBT-FST) has significantly reduced symptoms of Impulsivity (p<0.001, F=21.83) and improve quality of life (p≤0.001, F=46.58) in children of experimental group compared to control group and these results has been maintained for two months after intervention.
Conclusion: Based on findings we can say Dialectic Behavioral Therapy - Family and child Skills Training was effective in reducing Impulsivity and improves quality of life in girls with self-harm behaviors, so it is recommended to use this approach for students with self – harm behaviors.
