Abstract: (50 Views)
Introduction: Mothers with autistic children are under additional pressures that threaten their mental health. The present study aims to determine the effectiveness of the integrated unified protocol on parental burnout and emotional alexithymia in mothers with autistic children.
Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design. The study's statistical population includes all mothers with autistic children studying in one of the elementary schools in Mashhad. Among the mothers who met the inclusion criteria for the study, 36 were selected as the sample group through purposive sampling, and, by random assignment, 18 were placed in the integrated unified protocol treatment group and 18 in the control group. An Integrated unified protocol was implemented in 7 weekly sessions for the experimental group. The Parental Burnout Questionnaire (Roskom et al, 2018) and the Toronto Alexithymia (Bagby et al, 1994) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of covariance using SPSS-21.
Results: The results showed that an integrated unified protocol led to a reduction in parental burnout and alexithymia in mothers of autistic children (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The combination of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional techniques in an integrated unified protocol can effectively reduce parental burnout and alexithymia, and these changes can improve the quality of life of mothers of children with autism.
