The present research population was women with obsessive compulsive disorder referring to the psychological counseling centers of Ahvaz city in 2024. The sample of this study was 40 women with obsessive compulsive disorder who, after examining the inclusion criteria, were selected by a purposive sampling method and assigned into two equal groups using a simple random method with the help of a lottery. The experimental group underwent eight sessions of minutes (two sessions a week) under the cognitive behavioral group therapy, and during this time, the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the meaning of life questionnaire (Steger et al., 2006) and perceived stress questionnaire (Cohen et al., 1983) and analyzed using a multivariate analysis of the covariance method in SPSS-23 software.
Results: The findings of this research indicated that there was a significant difference between the women with obsessive compulsive disorder in the experimental and control groups in terms of meaning in life and perceived stress. In other words, the cognitive behavioral group therapy increased the meaning of life and decreased perceived stress in women with obsessive compulsive disorder (P<0.001).
Conclusions: According to the aforementioned results, psychologists and therapists can use cognitive behavioral group therapy along with other treatment methods to improve psychological characteristics in women with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
