Introduction: Premenstrual symptoms are a periodic event that combination of physical, emotional, psychological and behavioral changes and have an important role in marital burnout. Due to the complications of drug treatments and the lack of adequate research about drama therapy, present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of drama therapy on premenstrual symptoms and marital burnout in women.
Methods: This research was a semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with an experimental and control groups. Research population was women aged 25-35 years with problem in marital relationship referring to the counseling centers of Mashhad city in spring season of 2017 year. Sample research was 44 women that selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to two group. The experimental group 10 sessions of 90 minutes trained by drama therapy. Research tools were the questionnaires of premenstrual symptoms (Siahbazi & et al, 2011) and marital burnout (Pines, 1996). Data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance method with using SPSS-21 software.
Results: The results showed that in the post-test stage there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of premenstrual symptoms and marital burnout in women. In other words, drama therapy significantly reduced premenstrual symptoms (F=154/570, P<0/001) and marital burnout (F=109/643, P<0/001) in women.
Conclusions: The results indicated the importance of drama therapy in improving the premenstrual symptoms and marital burnout in women. As a result, therapists can use the drama therapy to reduce premenstrual symptoms and marital burnout in women.
