Introduction: Couples seeking divorce face many problems and challenges in life, especially in the area of psychological flexibility. Therefore, the present research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of an integrated divorce prevention package based on compassion, forgiveness, and transactional analysis on psychological flexibility in couples seeking divorce.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design and a control group. The population of the present research consisted of couples seeking divorce referred to all counseling centers in Sabzevar Township in the year 2024, from whom 16 couples were selected as a sample using the purposive sampling method and randomly assigned, via lottery, into two equal groups. The experimental group received 10 sessions, each lasting 90 minutes, of the integrated divorce prevention package based on compassion, forgiveness, and transactional analysis, while the control group remained on the waiting list for training and later received a training course. Data were collected using the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (Bond et al., 2011) and analyzed using statistical methods of chi-square and univariate analysis of covariance in SPSS-24 software.
Results: The findings showed that couples seeking divorce in the experimental and control groups did not differ significantly in terms of education level, duration of marriage, and number of children (P > 0.05). Also, there was a significant difference in psychological flexibility between couples seeking divorce in the experimental and control groups. In other words, the integrated divorce prevention package based on compassion, forgiveness, and transactional analysis significantly improved psychological flexibility in couples seeking divorce (P < 0.001).
Conclusions: According to the results of this study, to improve psychological flexibility in couples seeking divorce, professionals can use the integrated divorce prevention package based on compassion, forgiveness, and transactional analysis along with other educational and therapeutic methods.
