Introduction: Suicide is considered one of the most serious mental health crises worldwide, with rates continuing to rise in recent years. The present study aimed to predict suicidal ideation based on cognitive emotion regulation, fear of negative evaluation, and mental health in women with addiction.
Methods: This study employed a descriptive-correlational design. The statistical population comprised all women with addiction who had been referred to addiction treatment centers in Ahvaz in 2023, from which 210 individuals were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (Beck, 1961), the General Health Questionnaire (Goldberg, 1979), the Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (Leary, 1983), and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross & John, 2003). Data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis in SPSS version 24.
Result: The results indicated significant relationships between cognitive emotion regulation, fear of negative evaluation, and mental health with suicidal ideation (p < 0.05). Furthermore, all three variables — cognitive emotion regulation, fear of negative evaluation, and mental health — were significant predictors of suicidal ideation (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: The findings suggest that cognitive emotion regulation, fear of negative evaluation, and mental health are each relevant factors that should be considered in the planning and development of suicide-related interventions for high-risk groups, particularly women with addiction. Mental health professionals are therefore encouraged to place particular emphasis on suicide prevention and mental health promotion within this population.
