Introduction: Nursing students will develop health-promoting behaviors in society shortly. Therefore, it is necessary to examine various factors affecting this concept. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between health beliefs and health-promoting behaviors among nursing students in 2023.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study using a descriptive-correlational approach, 350 undergraduate nursing students were recruited by quota and convenience sampling from three universities of medical sciences (Tehran, Shahid Beheshti, and Iran). The data were collected via a demographic information questionnaire, the health beliefs index (Weissfeld, Kirscht, & Brock, 1990), and Walker's Health-Promoting Lifestyle Questionnaire (HPLP).
Results: The average score of health beliefs was 130.15 ± 8.69, and the average score of health-promoting behaviors was 117.02 ± 6.05. There was no significant relationship between the two research variables based on Pearson's correlation coefficient (P=0.562, r=0.03).
Conclusion: The nursing students have average health beliefs and health promotion. Therefore, those in charge of health and university education should pay more attention to and promote health promotion models during students' education. Moreover, future studies should adopt a qualitative approach to examine nursing students' health beliefs.
