Aims: Cardiovascular diseases is one of the main causes of mortality in the world. Coronary artery disease is one of the cardiovascular diseases that affects the sexual function of this patients. This study was performed to evaluate the sexual function of patients before and after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 90 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery in the two military Hospitals, Iran. In this research the international index of erectile function before and after two months after cardiac surgery was used for data gathering.
Results: The mean of total sexual function before surgery was 13.43 and 2 months after surgery was 6.93. Also, sexual function was decreased significantly in the areas of erectile function, orgasmic function, sexual desire, satisfaction with intercourse and marital satisfaction after surgery.
(P <0.001).
Conclusion: Probably due to the complications of surgery sexual function decreased in the short term. Therefore, in order to study more precisely, longitudinal studies are recommended to evaluation of this concept.
