Introduction: Patients after coronary artery bypass graft surgery usually experience a poor sleep quality and sleep problems are common as postoperative complications among these patients, the poor quality of sleep has adverse effects on the cardiovascular system and underlying conditions such as ischemia and myocardial infarction could be intensified. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the collaborative care model on sleep quality of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Methods: This quasi- experimental study was performed with the participation of 60 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery in Shiraz Shahid Faghihi hospital who were selected purposefully and randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. Collaborative care model that includes 4 stages of motivation, preparation, implementation and evaluation was introduced to intervention group. Sleep quality in both groups was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 16 using independent and paired t-tests, chi-square, Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: The mean sleep quality score was 10/30±2/29 in intervention group, and 8/7±2/02 in the control group before the intervention, which respectively reached to 6/53±2/27 and 10±2/08 after implementation of the intervention. There were significant differences between the two groups regarding the mean scores of sleep quality after the intervention (p<0/05). Conclusion: The use of collaborative care model could effectively improve the sleep quality of patients who were undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. So, the model is recommended in caring of these patients and other similar patient groups.
