Introduction: Anxiety leads to creating and increasing problems, especially in the areas of emotion regulation and interpersonal conflict. The present research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy on emotion regulation and interpersonal conflict in girls with anxiety disorder.
Methods: This research was semi-experimental with a pretest and posttest design with experimental and control groups. The research population of this research was 16-18-year-old girls students with anxiety disorder who were referred to counseling and psychological services centers in Ahvaz City in the summer of 2024. The number of 30 people was selected by purposive sampling method and randomly replaced with the help of the lottery into two equal groups (15 people in each group), including experimental and control groups. The experimental group trained eight sessions of 50 minutes and individually underwent treatment with intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy, and the control group remained on the waiting list for training. The data of this study were collected by demographic information form, anxiety inventory (Beck et al., 1988), emotion regulation questionnaire (Gross & John, 2003), and peer relations dysfunction scale (Hudson, 1990) and analyzed by Chi-square and multivariate analysis of covariance methods in SPSS-25 software.
Results: According to the findings of the present research, there was no significant difference between the girls with anxiety disorders of experimental and control groups in terms of age and educational level (P>0.05). Also, intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy led to increased emotion regulation and reduced interpersonal conflict in girls with anxiety disorder (P<0.001).
Conclusions: Based on the results, health professionals and therapists can use intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy along with other therapeutic methods to increase emotion regulation and reduce interpersonal conflict in vulnerable groups, including 16-18-year-old girls with anxiety disorder.
