Introduction: Academic optimism is an important component of education, and planners, managers, teachers, and students' parents have always focused on it. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the role of mindfulness and rumination in predicting academic optimism in students.
Methods: The present research method was descriptive-correlation. The research population included all the male and female students of the second secondary level of Birjand City in the academic year 2023-2024. One hundred twenty people were selected as a sample using the available sampling method, And they responded to Chadwick et al.'s Mindfulness Questionnaire (2008), Nolen Hoeksma and Maro's Rumination (1991), and Schengen Moran et al.'s (2013) Academic Optimism. SPSS version 24 software Pearson correlation statistical test and multiple linear regression model were used for data analysis.
Results: The results showed that the relationship between mindfulness and academic optimism (r=0.695) was positive and significant (P<0.01), but the relationship between rumination and academic optimism (r=0.604) was negative and significant. Was (P>0.01). The components of mindfulness explain 48.5% and rumination 37.1% of the variance of academic optimism.
Conclusion: The research results emphasize the importance of mindfulness and rumination in students' academic optimism.
